(Patreon) Strength Chapter 47

I ran out around the corner, charging forward. I wasn’t alone, however. Alhorn kept pace with me. Socks was still waiting around the corner, because she was faster and if she ran out at the same time as me she would find herself surrounded by goblins alone.

Seeing that we had started to come forward, the goblins with daggers did the same. They were about thirty feet away, and it only took a few moments before we clashed.

I brought my club down on the head of one with a horrible crunching sound. I was getting used to it, even though they somewhat resembled humans. Alhorn had charged forward with me, using his shield like a battering ram and knocking over a handful of goblins. Socks caught up with us shortly after, and with the three of us we almost blocked off the corridor.

I wanted to defeat as many goblins as I could quickly… but I also had to watch out for the archers in the back. I half watched them as well as the goblins in front of me. Each time an arrow was launched, I would use martial trance to avoid it. One… two… three arrows all toward me. It seemed they knew I was the easiest target to hit. Socks was too low, and Alhorn was quite well armored.

Even so, I dodged all of the arrows. They weren’t terrible accurate since they had to fire over their allies- not that they cared about them, but if they hit them then the arrows wouldn’t get to me.

I took the chance to perform a Whirlwind Attack. I took my club in both hands and swept it across. I spun around and must have hit at least five or six goblins, and I doubted they would get up again. As I came to a stop a moment later, I felt a pain in my right arm.

I flinched and took a step back, then saw an arrow pierced into my right bicep. I thought I had dodged all of the arrows… it should have taken them a moment to draw and fire again. Then I saw that several of the knife-wielding goblins had stayed behind to pick up the bows the others had dropped.

I could see that Alhorn had moved to cover the other arrows, but he couldn’t block that one without getting hit by my whirlwind attack.

“Llyr!” I heard Kantrilla shout.

“I’m fine! Stay in cover!”

There were only five goblins and the archers left. I knew Socks and Alhorn would be fine with just that many. I set my sights on the archers.

I saw a trail of electricity arc toward the ceiling and then between two of them, but unfortunately they were so staggered about that there were no goblins in between. That left four with bows… then shortly three as an arrow pierced through the chest of one.

I sprinted the other half of the corridor toward them. I couldn’t move my right arm, and even forming a grip was a problem. My left hand was much clumsier, but at least I didn’t have a problem with the weight of the club.

The archers shot at me again, but there was nothing else I had to pay attention to. I only had to slightly change my movement to dodge the arrows, and Martial Trance allowed me to be able to see how much. Without it, I would have had to dodge much further which might have locked me into that direction too much, leaving me open for another shot.

Before they could fire a second set of arrows I had reached them. Perhaps if they were afraid of anything they would have run, but instead they stood to fight… which meant it was easy to take them out in one Whirlwind Attack. I wasn’t very accurate, but I managed to swing approximately at their midline.

As I spun, I saw one goblin had broken off and chased after me, but Halette had already killed him with an arrow to the back. It would have been pretty bad for me otherwise.

In a few moments, the battle was over. I stayed away from the bodies until they started disappearing, and a few didn’t seem to be quite dead so I hit them with my club.

Kantrilla came running up, “Are you okay, Llyr?!”

I looked down at my right arm, then dropped my club and grabbed the arrow shaft. “I’ll be fine. Could you get ready with some healing?”

Kantrilla nodded, and I could see the magic gathering. When I judged she was about done, I pulled out the arrow shaft.

Presumably I passed out after that, but not for long. I woke up with Kantrilla binding my arm. It look like it wasn’t bleeding, at least, but it couldn’t actually heal instantly. Within a few minutes my arms was bound into a sling. It wouldn’t be good for fighting, but was still better than not having it.

Alhorn was sitting next to me, “That was pretty impressive, Llyr. You can wield that club in one hand?”

I nodded, “Not that well though. If it was might right hand it would be fine.”

“Impressive. How strong are you anyway?”

I knew I didn’t have to answer that, but I didn’t have much reason to hide it. “Well, over 400.”

“Wow… at level 5?”

“Well… actually I just hit 6. I have something like a blessing of Strength.”

Alhorn shook his head, “I couldn’t tell how strong you were until you still managed to beat goblins in a single hit one-handed. I assumed you had just enough Strength to wield it freely in two hands.”

“Most people think that.”

We managed to avoid fighting any more on the way out, mostly thanks to Halette and Socks. It took a bit longer, but we eventually made it out of the dungeon. One giant ambush per day was enough for everyone, even if my arm hadn’t been injured.

I would probably need to rest for a few days, even with healing magic. Without… it would take much longer and likely have many complications.

Since I had just leveled up, I took the chance to look over my stats. As usual, my Strength was far too much.

We had been making good money over the past week… and I had been saving up for some better armor. This was definitely a good time to get it.
